National award-winning home (Architizer/LaCantina 2019), Desert Butterfly embraces the high desert landscape via amplified biophilic design – effectively erasing the lines between indoors and out. Daily, direct, connection to place is afforded by fully-operable glazing, natural wood finishes, and a monolithic, board-formed, concrete wall which extends from inside to out, directing one’s attention to adjacent Deschutes National Forest lands and the Cascade mountains beyond. House volumes angled to capitalize on mountain views also gently wrap a southwest-facing, outdoor, entertainment space, sheltering this well used area from high desert winds.
